The standard of the federal president (Standarte des Bundespräsidenten) is a golden square with a red border, within it the federal eagle. The border is 1/12 of the flag width. The eagle is very different from the type used in the coat-of-arms and the federal service flag. Legal prescription: Anordnung über die deutschen Flaggen (Instruction on the German Flags) of 13th November 1996, published in the Bundesgesetzblatt I 1996, p. 1729.
